Affirmations Across Atlanta - Positive Paint Initiative
We're bombarded with messaging, all day long...and unfortunately, not all of it is positive. Affirmations Across Atlanta is looking to challenge that.
In 2022, we were approached by the B-Aware Foundation in conjunction with the A-Town Art Agency and the Fulton County Youth Commission to bring Affirmations Across Atlanta (AAA) to life. AAA is about bringing positive affirmation murals to the city of Atlanta, starting with schools. The initiative (aptly named the "Positive Paint Initiative") of this outreach was to elevate spaces around the city--specifically schools--to provide a moment of calm reaffirmation, a reminder of the goodness in the world.
"Society sends negative messaging all day long through the news, and social media sites, as well as on TV, and on the radio. It's our job to balance it out and calm people down," says Brian Glasper, Executive Director of the B-Aware Foundation. "People on their way home from work or on their way to work could use a positive, uplifting affirmation while sitting at a red light waiting in this Atlanta traffic...a kid with the weight of the world on his shoulders could use some words of encouragement while walking the halls at school, especially if he doesn't hear these types of things at home. It's our job to connect the dots and bring the message to those that need it most."
The Positive Paint Initiative worked specifically with Main Street Charter School, Fairburn Recreation Center, Success Souvenirs Child Development Center, Atlanta BeltLine, Big Brothers Anonymous, & the Grove Park Foundation. Over the duration of several months, students assisted artists with the completion of the murals at different locations. By getting involved, students received art supplies and giveaways sponsored by Sam Flax Atlanta.
It is our honor to share with you the outstanding work the B-Aware Foundation and the A-Town Art Agency have begun. Watch the video below to see the process of positivity in action.
